Only 24 days since the season ended and 52 days till the season restarts, the Premier League is BACK!

This season should be an emotional and once in a life time experience as a hammers fan, as we say resentful but respectful farewell to our home, The Boleyn Ground.

The fixtures have been released today and we start our farewell season AWAY at Arsenal, and we end the season… wait a minute… AWAY at Stoke. It seems that the Premier League don’t like goodbyes either cutting short our send off by 2 weeks. Nothing we can do about it really, we will still get 19 home games.

Now let’s get down to the predictions…

I’m VERY wary of these fixtures this season. There a few tough run ins and I can’t see where we are going to get any wins over the winter period.

Last season I predicted 51 points (one win off my target) just purely on West Ham being typical West Ham. It’s the same theory this time round, and I’ve predicted a depressing 39 points – W9 D12 L17…

With wins coming against Leicester (h) Bournemouth (h) Norwich (h) West Brom (h) Aston Villa (h) Norwich (a) Sunderland (h) Watford (h) & Swansea (h), it seems our home will be our fortress this season with us picking up 32 points on our own turf.

Predicted Dry spells:
1 point from 29th august – 19th sept
4 points from 3rd Oct – 21st Nov
4 points from 5th Dec – 2 Feb (Gulp!)
1 point from 1st – 5th March
2 points from 19th March – 30th April

I’m not a pessimist by the way, but I hope/PRAY we do a lot better than I think. If not, then I hope 39 points keeps us up.

These predictions are of my own views and not of those at WestHamWorld.co.uk. But I do suggest staying at home on our away days; spend it with the missus, wine and dine her, take her shopping.. it’ll be a lot cheaper than buying an away ticket to see us only pick up seven points all season.

Also use it as a “butter her up” technique to make your visit to the Olympic Stadium the following season a much more enjoyable one!

  1. It would be a shame but I think you might be right. While I’d love us now we’re in it to have a real go in Europa realistically it could all get too much for us and effect our chances in the prem.

I believe it will all depend on who we can bring in, who we can get rid of/sell and what size and depth of quality of the squad we finally end up with come the close of the transfer window.
The bigger the squad, the better the quality the better the chances we will have in tackling Europe and succeeding in the prem.

  2. Valid point re: The Europa. I’m not really expecting Bilic to take it too seriously this season. It could be a valuable tool for him to assess the squad and to blood some youngsters. I wouldn’t be upset at all if he approaches it as just a competitive pre season warm up. I’m not expecting a long European run, especially if it hampers our league form. As such we should expect our European exploits to be sacrificed if it’s having a detrimental effect and we shouldn’t be too upset if it is kicked to the kerb sooner rather than later.

  3. Hi mate,
Couldn’t agree more with you concerning the changes between last season and this but think your points total might be a touch optimistic.
Although I expect us to carry a far greater threat this year and if we can bring in another top goalscorer we will be ok, but I worry what our exertions in Europe might take out of us. (Think Everton last season).

Overall though we will definately be a better team this year and I would be happy with a top10-12 finish and approx around 50+ points. A great platform for the OS!

  4. Even considering the often negative effect Europa football can have on a team 39points is a bit on the depressing side!

I’m not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion either.

On the one hand we have the negatives of Europe, a small squad, an untried manager in the prem and no more BS “safety net”
And on the other, a new and highly regarded/experienced manager, a good first eleven, some top quality recruitments and squad rebuilding and a more threatening style of play.

With all things considered 39points still seems a poor return imo.

I believe we can do far better than that and would expect us to be at least 10-12points higher. With a stable 10-12th place finish and a good European run under our belts.

  5. BillyDWhizz is right,,,,,,You’ve obviously forgotten that we no longer have Allardyce in charge! I’m predicting 64 points.

  6. 39 points. Wow. You really are a pessimist!! I reckon we’ll break 60. Bilic won’t go in to games with the same fearful trepidation as the Sham and it will pay dividends. Plus the squad will be stronger than last season and there will be no more baffling substitutions, God awful tactics or playing players in weird and wonderful positions just to accommodate his “favourite” players.
