The five big name strikers West Ham fans want most this summer

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for almost the entire season then you’d know the club have made it very clear they’re in the market for a big name striker in the summer.

This admission has led to a whole host of goal scorers being linked with a move to the Olympic Stadium in the summer, nearly all of which have got us excited at the prospect of having one of Europe’s big names donning the claret and blue next season.

But which striker do we want the club to sign the most?

On Saturday we asked our readers to vote on nine players we’ve recently been linked with, and the results are in.

So here are the top five strikers the fans want West Ham to sign most this summer…

5. Wilfried Bony

It is widely believed that Wilfried Bony’s Manchester City career could come to an end when Pep Guardiola arrives at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

He hasn’t exactly set the world alight since signing from Swansea 18-months ago, and has had to play second fiddle to Sergio Aguero for much of that time.

This led to him being linked with a move to the Hammers back in March, and it’s clear he’d be very welcome.

Of course we were heavily linked with Bony a few seasons ago but Sam Allardyce infamously decided to sign Andy Carroll instead – now we may finally get our man this summer.

256 fans gave him a thumbs up in our poll last week.

4. Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson announced himself to the Premier League this season by banging in a hat-trick against us at the Boleyn Ground.

He suffered a serious injury soon after that, which left him sidelined for most of the season.

He’d certainly be a decent signing given the form he showed for Bournemouth earlier in the campaign but would he be a better signing that than any of the other strikers we’ve been linked with, or perhaps even the striker’s already at the club for that matter?

He’d potentially be a risky choice, but 276 fans reckon it’s a risk worth taking.

3. Gustavo Bou

No one really knows much about the South American but he has been linked with a move to the club in recent weeks, and reports have even claimed he wants a move to West Ham.

But, just like Callum Wilson, it’s difficult to see Bou as anything other than a risk at this time given the fact he has never played in Europe.

That said, Manuel Lanzini had never played in Europe before he arrived last summer – and look how he well he has done!

Bou is the third most wanted summer signing amongst the fans – 309 Hammers give him the thumbs up.

2. Michy Batshuayi

Surprisingly enough, the Marseille forward isn’t the number one striker the fans want this summer.

Batshuayi got on famously with Dimitri Payet when they played together at Marseille and he’d certainly prove to be a clever acquisition this summer. Just imagine the two of them running riot at the Olympic Stadium in the future…

But he’d cost a pretty penny, with some reports claiming we’d have to spend over £30million to bring him to East London.

I don’t know about you, but the club should pay whatever it takes to get him.

A whopping 832 fans gave Batshuayi the thumbs up.

1. Alexandre Lacazette

The France international set Ligue 1 alight last season, which led to him being linked with the likes of Man United, Liverpool and Spurs in the summer.

Instead he signed an improved contract and remained at Lyon, but the vultures are circling again and West Ham are supposedly amongst them this time around.

Lacazette would no doubt be a coup for the club if we were able to sign him in the summer, and would certainly be a statement of serious intent from the club.

A new era, a new stadium and one of the best strikers in Europe right now? – Yes please!

Unsurprisingly, 858 fans gave Lacazette the thumbs up in our poll.
