If you’re anything like me then there’s a small part of you that judges the calibre of away fans at each and every home game.

We all know that the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool bring a good bunch of lads down with each season, while the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are notoriously woeful when they visit the Boleyn Ground.

This season we welcome teams for the final ever time at our famous home before we move to the Olympic Stadium, which perhaps means visiting fans might try a little harder to create a bit more noise than normal – their last ever visit to the greatest football ground in the world should be memorable, even if they do get beaten by us.

But it seems we may have just found the best bunch of away fans to have ever visited the Boleyn Ground in its 112 year history.

Last Sunday we welcomed Bundesliga side Werder Bremen to east London as part of the annual ‘Betway Cup.’ which has previously been known as the Bobby Moore Cup (at that’s the way it should’ve stayed) and the SBOBET Cup.

The travelling Germans didn’t bring many down, though it still was a fairly respectable number of travelling fans for a pointless friendly for a pointless trophy. So what, I hear you ask?

Well, at one point during the game the Bremen fans broke out in to a wonderfully perfect rendition of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall.’

I don’t know about anyone else, but this is absolutely fantastic. Forget the thousands of away fans causing havoc and making loads of noise in the past, these German fans get my vote as the best away fans to have ever had the honour of visiting our great stadium.

Have a watch of this…

  1. I would like to see the Borussia Dortmund fans at our ground. I think they would end up being the best ever !
