The 3 positions West Ham need to prioritise in the summer window – Agreed?

West Ham United are safe for another year!

It has been a long and painful season but we are finally mathematically safe after a fantastic 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

With safety now officially confirmed, Slaven Bilic can start looking at summer transfer targets in order to improve the squad for a better campaign next year.

The target for next year will be to start pushing for a European spot and possibly some silverware in the domestic cup competitions.

In order to push on, we need to recruit in several areas.

There are weaknesses all over the field which need addressing; they have held the Hammers back all season and we have failed to sign the right players last summer and in January.

This is why the upcoming transfer window is key to West Ham’s progress.

Here are the three positions which we need to strengthen in the summer window as a matter of priority…

Right back

This has been a big problem for a while now.

Ideally this summer, we need to sign an experienced right back; someone who can mentor Sam Byram and provide us with a short term first-team option.

Byram could be our long term solution to this problem position but he is a raw talent and definitely needs some time to learn his trade.

Possible options: Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson, Kevin Malcuit.

Goalkeeper

Goalkeeper is another priority for us this summer.

Darren Randolph’s shoddy form in goal has cost us a number of points and Adrian was dropped earlier in the year for similarly error-prone performances.

It’s time to get a top class goalkeeper in and get rid of Randolph, keeping Adrian as back-up.

Possible options: Jordan Pickford, Joe Hart, Asmir Begovic, David Stockdale.

Striker

This, in my opinion, has to be our top priority.

When Andy Carroll is fit, we are a much better unit but that is less than half a season and we cannot have the big man as a plan A.

Jonathan Calleri is not good enough, Diafra Sakho has a bad attitude and similar injury issues and Ashley Fletcher and Toni Martinez are simply too young and not ready yet.

We need two strikers in the summer and should be splashing the cash on a top marksman.

Possible options: Tammy Abraham, Jermain Defoe, Daniel Sturridge, Chris Wood, Fernando Llorente, Josh King.
