Ok, so we’re not actually going to win the title. Not unless Slaven Bilic really is the messiah?

Our three mega away victories already this season have led to us collecting 14 points from our first eight games, landing us in 6th place. Impressive.

But why does that statistically make us real title contenders?

Well, the clever chaps over at Sporting Intelligence have had a look at the the points totals by title winners after eight games. They’ve found that none of the previous Premier League champions won fewer than 14 points from their first eight games before going on to win the league.

Only two managed it after winning as few as 14 points, both of them Manchester United teams, from five seasons ago and from 2002-03.

That means, statistically, we’re one of six teams to still technically be considered as ‘title contenders – with the top six all amassing 14 points or more so far.

Clutching at straws I known, and we all know we won’t be anywhere near it come May; but it’s still refreshing to us doing so well for once…
