James Tomkins signed a new five-year contract extension at the club today, which will keep him at the club until 2020.

Tonks has been superb for us this year, and has been a regular for us since breaking in to the first team since 2007.

We were perhaps hoping to keep to hear an announcement that Winston Reid had decided to stay at the club by signing a new deal, but tying Tomkins down to a new deal is just as important for us.

Since making his debut in 2007, Tomkins has made 205 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, scoring eight goals.

It’s a good sign that the club still values the players that are born and bred West Ham, coming through the academy at an early age and then going on to enjoy long and successful careers in the famous claret and blue.

All we need now is for Mark Noble to do the same and we’ll be happy…
