So if today’s reports are to be believed, we’re close to confirming a loan deal for Al Jazira Club star Manuel Lanzini.

Given that no one really knows who he is, nor what he’d bring to our side, most fans have turned to YouTube to see just what all the fuss is about.

And the below video tells us all we need to know. The 22-year-old is, quite simply, a pretty good footballer. He reminds me of Lionel Messi, but without the high profile, a little bit less ability and the £300k-a-week-plus wage demands.

The former Argentina U20 international began his career at River Plate before spending a year on loan at Fluminese and eventually moving to Qatar last year.

And it appears Slaven Bilic reckons he’d be worthwhile addition to our squad this season. The loan deal represents a pretty low-risk deal for us, too. Some fans on social media claim Lanzini is “a bit lightweight” for the Premier League, so if it turns out that way then we can just send him back to Qatar and forget about him.

But if he ends up being as good as the video below suggests, then signing him permanently will no doubt be an option built in to the deal and we can look forward to having him in our ranks for the years to come.

  1. You may be right about Ogbonna and Obiang. Let’s see what they’re like. And, if nothing else, they are in the squad as competition whereas last season there was none in central defence and midfield.

  2. I am not convinced by Obgonna – but hope to be surprised – and even less so with Obiang, but I believed Payet would be a different class: After the Southend game, he proved it. Payet will be worshipped!…and here’s another: Lanzini will light up the Prem, and the two together will tear defences to pieces! COME ON YOU IRONS!!! Yeeeeeees!…. Now for a top striker!
