West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan have made it clear that they want a top 10 finish this season.

Gold himself mentioned on Twitter that he would ‘be disappointed if we did not finish in the top 10’ and many fans would share this view too. After a rather disappointing campaign last season, an improvement is something of a must, especially with the squad improving due to a number of good signings.

Despite this, confidence of achieving a top half finish may have lessened slightly after the rather poor pre-season performances. The team failed to avoid defeat in New Zealand, losing both fixtures against Wellington Phoenix and Sydney FC.

The Shalke tournament did little in terms of showcasing improvement; a rather pointless penalty shootout victory disguised an uninspiring draw against Shalke and a comprehensive defeat to Malaga left fans feeling frustrated and concerned about the team’s preparation for the new season.

Although West Ham have had a pre-season to forget, there are still a number of factors that could lead to the Hammers gaining a top half finish.

So here’s SIX reasons we can still force a top ten finish this season.
