A new season is upon us and West Ham enter the campaign with renewed optimism following a busy summer window.

The Hammers drafted in Manuel Pellegrini as their new boss and handed the Chilean plenty of funds to spend in the market, as the club signed the likes of Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Jack Wilshere.

Pellegrini faces a tough start to life at the London Stadium with a trip to face Liverpool at Anfield on the opening day but former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood is tipping the side to enjoy a thrilling campaign.

Speaking on the Sky Sports The Debate PodcastSherwood backed West Ham to compete with Arsenal for European football this term.

“I think West Ham have had an amazing window.”

“It certainly won’t be a relegation battle for West Ham, it will be mid-table upwards. I could even see them pushing Arsenal.

“I think that on paper, and I know nothing is won on paper, Arsenal may have better firepower. But over the rest of the pitch, I think West Ham have probably got better players.”
