Sam out? FIVE possible managers West Ham should consider

With the managerial merry-go-round starting to show the perils of a run of bad results ultimately ending a manager’s stint at any club, several Premier League bosses are being linked with moves away.

West Ham gaffer Sam Allardyce is one of them. Top flight strugglers Aston Villa are currently on the lookout for a new chief after the dismissal of Paul Lambert, while fellow Londoners QPR and Fulham have been strongly linked in acquiring Big Sam as their gaffer, considering his Upton Park contract expires in the summer.

Despite the Hammers’ solid league and cup campaign, some fans would like to see the back of the former Newcastle United boss.

So, here are FIVE potential managers that could be as successful as Allardyce.

Michael Laudrup

During his playing days, former FC Barcelona man Laudrup was and still is considered the best Danish player ever to grace a football pitch.

As well as playing at the Nou Camp, other clubs Laudrup has played include Lazio, Real Madrid, Juventus and Ajax. That alone just shows how good of a player Laudrup was in his hay day.

It also turns out that he isn’t bad as a manager as well. Noticing that all of the teams Laudrup played for were purely focused on playing attractive football, Laudrup has brought this into his management style, which was proven at Swansea City by winning the League Cup in 2013.

He was a quality footballer and suits the right style of management the Hammers faithful want – surely it’s a match made in heaven? The one downside to the former Getafe, Spartak Moscow and Real Mallorca boss is, on average, he fails to go beyond a two year spell at any club he has managed.

West ham would want more security and commitment.

Slaven Bilic

There’s no denying that in the past, Bilic has openly admitted his interest in the West Ham manager’s post. It seems that every time a Premier League manager is sacked; Bilic is one of the first names to be linked with the vacancy. There’s one simple reason for this, he’s a good manager.

Being an ex-Hammer himself, where he accumulated 48 games between 1996 and 1997, Bilic is well renowned for being a no nonsense character, something the West Ham faithful have been longing for.

His biggest success as a manager was denying England a place in Euro 2008 as the chief of Croatia, spelling the end of Steve McClaren’s miserable reign.

As well as managing Lokomotiv Moscow and now currently at Turkish outfit Besiktas, could Bilic be tempted into having a crack at showing what he can do as a manager in England. There isn’t a better way of doing that than with West Ham.

Paul Clement

In the past year, Clement is another manager that seems to be linked with every vacant Premier league manager’s position. Now assistant manager at Spanish giants Real Madrid, Clement has also held coaching roles at French Ligue 1 Champions PSG and current Premier League leaders Chelsea.

You might think that Clemet had a glittering playing career in order to get these illustrious jobs. In fact, Clement’s playing career failed to go beyond non-league level, and he started to concentrate on coaching at just 23 years of age.

Now under the guidance of one of the world’s top coaches, Carlo Ancelotti, Clement’s insight into the Galacticos training regime and methods, which has resulted in Real Madrid being one of the best teams in Europe, is the reason why Englishman Clement is very much a wanted man back in his home country.

Rafa Benitez

We all know Sam Allardyce likes to prove his team’s worth with facts and stats. Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is another one of those bosses.

The astute Spaniard is currently doing reasonably well at Italian outfit Napoli, guiding them to third in Serie A. One disadvantage of the former Valencia man is his tactical decisions and substitutions during games. Putting on a striker when you’re leading the game in the 90th minute is something very ‘Benitez like.’

However, Benitez is a high profile manager that can attract bigger names to West ham. With the 2016 move to the Olympic Stadium fast approaching, Benitez could be the ideal man for an ambitious club like West Ham.

Paolo Di Canio

Do West Ham fans want to see Di Canio back at his beloved club? Of course they do. Having the passionate Italian back at the Boleyn Ground is something every Hammers wants, and whether or not it’s in the manager’s role, he is always welcome.

However, Di Canio has always expressed his love for West Ham, and has always said that one day he would want to manage them. He even has a tattoo of the club’s crest on his left arm, so why not give him a crack in the hot seat?

Despite his controversies, he showed signs of brilliance while at League One side Swindon Town and also secured Sunderland’s first away win at arch rivals Newcastle United in over a decade.

Many say that a club should never appoint a club legend. Just ask Newcastle United fans when Alan Shearer took charge of the Magpies in 2009, the year they got relegated.

Is Di Canio the exception?
