West Ham are reportedly interested in making a summer move for a former Premier League attacker who Harry Kane admires.

Despite much positivity heading into the new season, the Hammers’ Premier League campaign has got off to a disappointing start.

Julen Lopetegui’s first competitive game as manager saw West Ham defeated 2-1 at home to Aston Villa last Saturday, in what acted as a reality check for the east Londoners.

There is still plenty to be excited about at the London Stadium, however – one result shouldn’t change that – with a host of new signings arriving during the summer transfer window.

It looks as though their business may not be done yet, with Football Insider claiming that Tammy Abraham is viewed as a potential option to bring in.

The 26-year-old could leave Roma before the end of the month, having been in Italy since leaving Chelsea back in 2021, and he is on the Hammers’ “wanted list”.

The report goes on to say that “a new striker cannot be ruled out” for West Ham, who view Abraham as a “high priority”, although they “will need to clear some debts by selling players before they can make a move for the Roma star.”

Abraham certainly has the pedigree to be a good signing for West Ham, even though the arrival of Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund could limit his playing time.

The ex-Chelsea man has done a solid job at Roma, scoring 37 goals in 120 appearances for the Serie A side, and he has also netted three times in eight caps for England.

Kane is a fan of Abraham’s, once saying he was doing “very well” at Roma under Jose Mourinho, and his prime years could be about to arrive.

Competition for places in attack can rarely be a bad thing, and Abraham could represent a longer-term option at the 31-year-old Fullkrug, and it may be that a return to the Premier League appeals to him after years away.

A tally of 26 goals in 89 matches in the competition shows that he knows how to succeed in the division, and he would also be returning a more rounded footballer capable of excelling more than before.
