West Ham have moved a step closer to signing Juventus and Italy striker Fabio Quagliarella, according to Sky Sport Italia.

It is being reported that the 29-year-old has agreed a move in principle to the Hammers but a fee between the two clubs is yet to be agreed.

Quagliarella has been told he can leave the Serie A giants this summer following the arrivals of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente, while Sam Allardyce is in the market for a striker to help cover for the currently injured Andy Carroll.

The Hammers have proposed a loan move with an option to buy at the end of the season, although Juve are believed to be desperate to cash in on the player now and are not keen on loaning the forward out.

Southampton and Norwich City were also reported to be in the race for the former Sampdoria, Udinese and Napoli striker, but it appears Quagliarella sees a move to East London as a far more exciting prospect.

However, both Sam Allardyce and joint-chairman David Gold admitted last week that players must be sold in order for any new signings to arrive at Upton Park due to the new Financial Fair Play regulations.

Quagliarella has netted 22 times in 67 Serie A appearances for Juventus since signing from Napoli in 2010. He has been capped 25 times by Italy, scoring six goals.
