Our attempts to sign Marseille star Dmitri Payet appear to be getting quite interesting.
It feels like an age ago when we were first linked with a move for the France international and now just a couple of weeks later it seems a decision from his club is imminent.
The club have made no secret of their admiration of him and have put an offer of €15million on the table, which Marseille have spending a lot of time mulling over.
Of all the players we’ve been linked with already this summer, it’s obvious Payet is the one player Slaven Bilic really, really wants. And if that was in any doubt, then tweets from the ever reliable Get French Football were tweeting about the offer on the table and the likelihood of the deal going through last night.
The details of the contract we’re willing to offer Payet is quite an eye opener – a five-year contract worth, €2.5m-a-year net salary and €14,000 appearance bonus, as well as an option for another year.
That’s some contract offer and a significant improvement on Payet’s current Marseille contract.
Trouble is, GFN also claim Payet would opt to stay at the club if Marcelo Bielsa stays and their contract offer is right, but that doesn’t seem to be going too well as things stand.
And Marseille may be forced in to selling him anyway. So let’s hope they accept, because if they do then the deal will pretty much be done, as Payet isn’t likely to reject a contract of that size.
Fingers crossed.
According to tomorrow's L'Équipe, West Ham United are trying very hard to close a deal for Dimitri Payet by the end of the week.

West Ham have offered Dimitri Payet a 5 year contract with the option to extend by another year. €2.5m a year net as a base salary. (1/3)

Over the 5 year period Payet is guaranteed at least €15m net, including a €14,000 appearance fee. West Ham's bid of €15m sitting on table.

The size of West Ham's new offer is making Vincent Labrune consider selling. Contract extension talks today not especially positive either.

From Payet's point of view, if Marseille offer him a financially acceptable contract extension & Bielsa stays, he's happy to remain 1 year.

Marseille must however sell a player before the 30th June. With Giannelli Imbula's departure now uncertain, OM would turn to Payet next.

The difficulty is that a Dimitri Payet departure might be the negative sign in terms of transfer policy that prevents Bielsa from extending.
