Neil McDonald has hinted that Mladen Petric could feature in Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Everton.

The 32-year-old striker joined the Hammers on a free transfer last week after being released by Fulham in the summer, but missed the Hammers’ trip to Southampton on Sunday because he was not yet match-fit.

But McDonald has revealed that Petric is edging closer to match fitness and may be in the match day squad to face the Toffees on Saturday.

He told FourFourTwo: “He’s been training by himself in the summer, he has not done any football so we are just trying to get him onto the grass and get him involved in football.

“To be fair to him, he has looked after himself fitness-wise but football-wise he needs a little bit more time and we’ve got a good week leading up now into Everton and hopefully he might be able to come into the squad if he gets through the week.”

Meanwhile, McDonald explained that the club is still waiting on an update on Andy Carroll‘s latest foot injury and are waiting to hear back from a specialist.

“We are still waiting for the prognosis to come back and see where he is at and how long he is going to be so we are just waiting for the specialist to get back to us on that,” he said.
