West Ham have ventured into new waters ahead of the new Premier League season, appointing experienced manager Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium.

The Chilean boss arrives in east London to steady the ship after a disappointing few years for the Hammers and takes the reigns after David Moyes’ short stint at the club.

While it was previously reported that Moyes would be rewarded with fresh terms after leading the club to Premier League safety, West Ham elected to go down a different route – and former Hammers assistant Stuart Pearce has revealed his surprise at the decision.

Pearce, who worked alongside Moyes this term, shared his views when speaking to Talksport.

“It’s a wonderful club – I had a fantastic seven months there are really enjoyed my time – and they’ve now got a very good manager.”

“They’ve decided not to go down the David [Moyes] route, I was a little surprised by that as I saw first-hand what a good job he did in a situation that could have gone either way.”
