Get Well Soon, Andy!

0
Andy made an immediate impact on his West Ham debut and we’re going to miss him already as he recovers from injury.

When I heard Andy Carroll was joining from Liverpool I thought please don’t let it be for a permanent fee. What would be the point of risking the financial future of the club for just one player who, to be honest, I never really rated. I’m like any other football fan and, when he didn’t hit the ground running at Liverpool, I feared the worst. Personally, a loan deal was always preferable.

I felt optimistic before the Fulham game as they are a mediocre Premier League side who we should be level with. I only got to see the first half on an Italian channel so can only judge by what I saw. Carroll looked like a free man. He had escaped his overlooked prison cell within Anfield’s home of Legends.  Here was a man with the weight of the world lifted off his shoulders by Big Sam. Oh, and 80-90K per week!

From the kick off something felt very strange. West Ham were dynamic and the intensity was incredible. Nolan set us on our way but it came from Andy Carroll’s flick on. What an incredible leap that guy has. He was like a man possessed as he flicked onto Vaz Te, who in turn set up Kevin Nolan.

Ok, so now I’m thinking we’ve got 89 minutes to hang onto this. We know we are going to create chances all day long but, one thing we are very much aware of is if we don’t score that second goal the opposition will. I felt so relieved as Winston Read rose to smash his header in for the second and Fulham were completely on the ropes. The ref should’ve stopped the game there and then because only one team were going to win. Fulham offered very little in terms of attacking. Duff looked decent but the rest were poor.

Not only did Carroll look great, everyone looked up for it. Vaz Te looked good on the wing. He did nothing extravagant but kept playing the correct simple pass. Taylor, who I feel hasn’t impressed too much since his arrival, put in a good shift. James Collins won every header.

A mate of mine tweeted me saying ‘this is like watching Bolton.’ Was this because we had five ex-players, or because we were playing long ball? If non-West Ham fans actually watched the game they would’ve seen some great football on the floor at times. Yes, Big Andy was the target man and we used his aerial ability to our advantage. However, the balls from Noble were never aimless hoofs. They were precise and with conviction. Diagonal passes and nodding down from our new striker. If Diame would’ve guided that ball under the bar it would’ve been some goal.

The third goal from Taylor was as a result of the big man’s presence again. Matt Taylor finished superbly and hopefully this could be the catalyst for him to return to his best form again.

I did not get to see the second half but I was so impressed with the first half display. Can we recreate that week in week out, though? It will be difficult but it gives everyone hope. Shame about Carroll’s injury but if we’d have signed him permanently he probably would’ve got a more serious injury – it seems to be a common trend for West Ham! Keeping our best players fit is a challenge in itself!

Against Villa I thought we looked slightly rusty. Against Swansea we looked awful. Against Fulham we were awesome.

Get well soon Andy!

West Ham 3-0 Fulham – Match Report

0

Andy Carroll made an instant impact on his West Ham debut as they comfortably beat Fulham 3-0 at Upton Park.

It took just 53 seconds for Carroll to introduce himself to the Hammers fans when his clever flick-on found Ricardo Vaz Te who was able to lay-off to captain Kevin Nolan to volley home from 8 yards.

Winston Reid made it 2-0 just before the half-hour mark when he got himself on the end of a Matty Taylor corner to register his fifth goal for the club.

Taylor made it three just before half-time when he found himself unmarked at the edge of the area to smash the ball past keeper Mark Schwarzer after Carroll forced a poor clearance from Brede Hangeland.

Carroll, however, was forced to limp off after 68 minutes with a suspected hamstring strain, which will see him miss the upcoming England internationals against Moldova and Ukraine.

Maynard Moves

Nicky Maynard has signed for Cardiff City on a permanent basis.

Nicky Maynard has completed a permanent move to Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.

Maynard, 25, only joined the Hammers from Bristol City in January this year but was limited to first team opportunities under Sam Allardyce.

He made a total of 17 appearances in all competitions in claret & blue, scoring 4 goals.

His last appearance saw him score against his former club Crewe in the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.

Match Preview – West Ham United v Fulham

0
Andy Carroll will be looking to get straight in amongst the goals on his debut on Saturday.

It’s the first London Derby of the season and there’ll be added excitement around Upton Park as we all look forward to seeing Andy Carroll for the first time after he completed his loan move from Liverpool yesterday.

The prospect of seeing Andy Carroll linking up with his old Newcastle team mate – and best friend – Kevin Nolan, as well as record signing Matt Jarvis, has got Hammers fans looking optimistically into the future.

We hope that last weekend’s 3-0 loss away to Swansea was just a ‘bad day at the office’ and that the team can compose themselves against a Fulham side who have made an impressive start to the season, despite losing to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup during the week.

With Big Sam making 10 signings this summer, it is clear the he and the club’s owners are making a real statement of intent to establish themselves as a force in the Premier League.

The signings we have already made have impressed, while the ones we haven’t seen yet – or the ones who haven’t featured much – still have their chance to show us why Big Sam brought them to club.

The Cottagers lost Mousa Dembele to Tottenham in the week, which only weakened them for a couple of days until they secured the signing of Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov earlier today (Friday).

However, the impending departure of talisman Clint Dempsey will hurt the most.

Depsite Dempsey’s absence, though, they got off to a good start at home to Norwich with a 5-0 win and showed signs of an upset at Old Trafford last weekend, but narrowly lost 3-2.

Boss Martin Jol seems to be rebuilding his Fulham side with quality players like Berbatov, while his current players seem to be revitalised and in good form early on.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce will see this as a must-win game and he will be demanding that his players turn Upton Park into a fortress and improve on last season’s home form, which could have jeopardized their promotion bid.

West Ham draw Wigan

0

West Ham have been handed a Capital One Cup third-round draw at home to Wigan Athletic.

Sam Allardyce’s side reached the third-round courtesy of a 2-0 home win over Crewe on Tuesday, while Wigan overcame Nottingham Forest 4-1 on Wednesday night.

It’ll be the first time the teams face each other since the Latics sent West Ham crashing down to the Championship with a 3-2 win on the penultimate day of the 2010/2011 season, and the Hammers will be in search of revenge.

The tie will take place in the week commencing Monday 24 September.
