Considering the amount of time that was wasted on attempting to get Maxi Gómez, you would’ve thought West Ham would have now gone for a striker that could be signed without too much trouble.
The Hammers have seemingly targeted Sebastien Haller, with ExWHUEmployee hinting the move hasn’t been done “yet”.
However, he did later tweet that he isn’t confident the deal will be completed at all.
In all honesty, it is difficult to see how he could be, as Eintracht Frankfurt have already sold Luka Jović to Real Madrid this summer, so would likely be reluctant to sell their other star striker.
In addition, German outlet Bild have shut down any suggestion that a deal could be approaching any kind of conclusion.
It is understandable the Hammers would want a striker who got 15 goals and nine assists in just 23 starts and six substitute appearances.
However, if this move was going to happen, the negotiations should have started a long time ago – which of course wasn’t possible due to the focus that was put on attempting to sign Gómez.
So while it possibly isn’t unrealistic for West Ham to sign players of Haller’s calibre, it does seem that the Hammers don’t have much hope of getting the Frenchman at this time.
If the indications are there that he and Eintracht Frankfurt don’t want the deal to happen, which certainly seems to be the case, then we should move on to a target who will be more easily attainable.
