With reports suggesting that the Hammers could sell defensive midfielder Tomas Soucek this summer, West Ham will need to make a big summer signing to replace him.

According to West Ham insider ExWHUemployee, the club are willing to listen to offers for the 27-year-old this summer after a dip in his performances.

Soucek had an incredible start to life at West Ham after joining in 2020 for £20million, scoring 10 goals and winning Hammer of the Year.

However, in comparison to last year, his performances have taken a hit in recent months and he has adopted a back seat role in the centre of the midfield next to Declan Rice.

Because of this, there have been calls from supporters for the club not to offer him a contract extension and recent reports suggest that there is a possibility he could leave this summer.

However, the club should reconsider their stance on the Czech Republic international, because of the role he has played at the club over the past couple of seasons.

Soucek has been an integral member of a team that has enjoyed much success since he arrived at West Ham, and the club will need to make a big statement signing if they end up selling him in the next few months.

The club have already been linked with several midfielders that could fill in that position, including big names like Kalvin Phillips and James Ward-Prowse.

Both transfer links would be excellent signings, with both having Premier League experience. The two midfielders can work well on both ends of the pitch and their national team connection with Declan Rice may also benefit the squad.

If Soucek was to leave this summer, despite his contribution to the club, then the Hammers would have to acquire one of these two players to show that they can still compete for a top-six spot in 2022/2023.

It would be a big and bold move for the club to part ways with Soucek, and that would call for a big statement signing in order to repair the inevitable disappointment amongst the fanbase and, of course, the big hole he would leave in David Moyes’ midfield.
