West Ham have been linked with a move for Lille midfielder Amadou Onana this summer, and the Hammers should pull out all the stops to sign him.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham have submitted a bid to French Ligue 1 side Lille to sign the 20-year-old footballer.

Onana, who has represented the Belgium national team, has had an excellent season in France and has attracted interest from various clubs including Liverpool and Arsenal as well.

The 6ft 5in defensive midfielder would cost the club around £30million, and the Hammers have apparently put forward a third, improved bid to acquire Onana’s signature.

If David Moyes can secure the signing this month then West Ham supporters will be in for a treat heading into the new 2022/23 campaign.

In addition to this, having Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and new signing Flynn Downes operating in the middle of the park, the Hammers will be in full strength in preparation for their first game against Manchester City on August 7th.

With his strong physique, Onana offers David Moyes a large presence and stability in midfield. As well as this, his arrival will increase the club’s squad depth, which was severely lacking last season.

After arriving at Lille for around £6m last summer, the 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength to showcase his abilities over the past year.

He offers the team an excellent aerial threat, he is very skilled in tackling and has a good range of passing to help progress the ball forward to create chances for other players.

Onana recorded 1.5 tackles and 0.9 interceptions per game and averaged an 83.5% passing accuracy across the whole campaign last season.

If West Ham are successful in their attempts to sign the Belgium international, then supporters can look forward to another strong and talented footballer playing in claret and blue next month.
