West Ham made the correct decision to sell striker Sebastien Haller, despite his excellent run of form for Ajax and recent reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.

According to several recent reports, originating from the Sun, former Hammers striker Sebastien Haller is attracting the interest of numerous clubs including Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund.

This comes after an excellent season for Ajax after arriving for £20 million last January.

The Ivorian international has scored 33 goals in 39 appearances, as well as adding nine assists to that tally. This includes 11 goals in nine UEFA Champions League matches for the club.

However, before his move back to the Eredivisie, Haller had a not so successful spell with the Hammers following his arrival on a club-record fee.

The 27-year-old clearly showed his talents and goal scoring abilities for West Ham, but he never quite settled into the formation that manager David Moyes played in.

Because of this, the Hammers opted to sell the talisman in order to prevent any toxicity within the squad. However now, many supporters will be frustrated that Haller is performing well at his new club, unlike he did in London.

But with a potential move back to the Premier League on the cards, fans must remember that the squad has remained largely unaffected by his departure.

Since then the Hammers have embarked on an incredible Europa League run and are competing for the top six in the league for a second consecutive season.

Now in hindsight, West Ham made the correct decision to sell their club-record signing when they did – following a string of bad performances.

Haller is no doubt a top striker and has proved that this season with Ajax, but Hammers fans should remember that his performances at the club were not always satisfactory and West Ham made the right decision to offload the striker when they did.
