West Ham have recently been linked with versatile Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko, and he would be an excellent addition to the squad.
According to the Evening Standard, the Hammers are set to battle Premier League rivals Arsenal for the signing of Zinchenko this summer.
The clubs are aiming to step up their interest in the Ukraine international following their unfortunate 1-0 loss to Wales at the weekend.
This defeat meant that Zinchenko misses out on a place in this winter’s World Cup after his national side were defeated in a play-off final match, which decided the final qualifying team.
However, with the Manchester City defender returning to his club, manager David Moyes and the Hammers can now step up in their pursuit for the 25-year-old.
The versatile full-back, who can also play in midfield, has had a great season with the Premier League champions and his performances have improved heavily over the past few months.
However, with a plethora of talented players at City’s disposal, Zinchenko could now look to find more playing time at another club.
The signing of the Ukrainian would be the perfect fit for West Ham next season, who need to bolster both their defence and midfield in order to build on their successes from the latest campaign.
Zinchenko’s defensive capabilities against opposition players makes him hard to play against. On top of that, he has an excellent range of passing and can offer contributions at both ends of the pitch.
Just this season he has bagged eight assists in all competitions for both club and country.
His versatility to Moyes could be vital when injuries and suspensions inevitably hit the squad, and his determination when playing makes him the perfect fit for the Hammers.
If West Ham get the chance to bring him to the London Stadium then the club should not be holding back. His services would be a great addition to the team and Moyes should do everything he can to acquire his signature this summer.
