Latest West Ham transfer target David Raum would be an excellent signing for the Hammers, but could be too expensive to sign this summer…

West Ham are reportedly interested in signing left-back David Raum from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, according to reports coming out of Germany.

The 24-year-old Germany international enjoyed an impressive 21/22 season after signing from Greuther Furth from the German second tier.

After arriving on a free contract, Raum became one of the signings of the season – operating as an unstoppable force down the left-hand side.

Not only did he become an instant first-team regular, but he produced a massive 13 assists and three goals to help his team to a ninth-place finish in the Bundesliga.

On top of this, he also made his national team debut back in September, and has impressed manager Hansi Flick to earn an extra nine appearances since then.

After bursting onto the scene, it is no wonder he has attracted so much interest from other clubs – including the likes of Manchester United.

However, as West Ham’s interest increases, it is hard to see Hoffenheim allowing Raum to leave this summer for a cheap fee.

Currently, reports are suggesting that a bid of £30-35 million could be submitted from clubs that want to acquire his signature, but it is more likely than not that this fee will go up.

The Hammers might have to splash out over £40 million for his services but may have to prioritise other positions that lack squad depth instead of breaking the bank for Rahm.

The addition of the 24-year-old would certainly bolster the current back four and make the squad even stronger than it already is, but his price tag might be too much when other positions in the squad require more investment.

If West Ham do sign Rahm this summer then supporters can expect a talented full-back to light up the London Stadium next season, but his price might just exceed the club’s transfer budget this time around.
