Many West Ham United fans had issues with David Moyes’ style of play across his two spells at the club, but few night’s topped our Europa Conference League win back in 2022/23. With the 62 year old Scotsman moving on at the end of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign we all hoped that there were similar brighter days ahead and that we would finally Hammer down on ambition under our current ownership.
As we all know, sadly that has not proven to be the case and we have managerially lurched through Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter and neither was actually great.
For fans who like a flutter they would not have liked our pre season odds and may have pivoted to online gaming and looked at binance casino Betpanda options for their entertainment, as we all knew that we would lurch again with the appointment of former Wolverhampton Wanderers gaffer Nuno Espirito Santo. The 51 year old has impressed many in the fanbase as he attempts to slowly redefine our style of play in his own quietly spoken manner as a coach but there is a long way to go.
It is fair to say that results have not been great for the former Portuguese international B goalkeeper, but we are now six games into his tenure and after three defeats and a draw (that still gave some fans hope) we are now celebrating back to back victories with wins over Newcastle United and Burnley and his plan begins to come together at the London Stadium. It does not mean our gaffer is happy though as quite clearly he has problems with his first team options, and even though they may have appeared on the pitch, there are some big name earners who are basically out of favour.
Nuno wants backing in the January transfer window and only our owners will know how much they can splash after previous spending, and previous earnings that many fans think were simply pocketed. He could not have made this more clear when he announced that he had picked four Academy youth prospects and added them to first team training as he looked to increase he viable options.
Ezra Mayers, Finlay Herrick, Airidas Golambeckis and Mohamadou Kante were all added to the squad ahead of the Newcastle clash and Mayers even featured in the match day squad for the game that finally saw us return three points for the first time in longer than we would all have hoped to remember. The promising centre back has a long way to go yet, and he will undoubtedly benefit from training with our senior players, but whichever way you try and cut it, making that decision now to promote unknown but promising youngsters, can only be taken as a message about January and the options the gaffer feels he has as he looks to continue to get his message across and turn our fortunes around.
Whether or not Nuno gets what he wants in the New Year still remains to be seen, but he has certainly strengthened his case when arguing that our Board have finally made the right appointment after our back to back wins and that they should implicitly trust him going forward. A third win would only further strengthen his position and ingratiate him to the fans.
And who knows, maybe one of those four will prove to be very Noble in the future.
