West Ham United have emerged as one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing Everton’s out of favour midfielder James McCarthy, according to The Daily Mail.

Everton are prepared to sell McCarthy this summer as Ronald Koeman prefers Idrissa Gueye, Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin in the defensive midfielder role.

West Ham would have to compete with newly promoted Newcastle United and Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace to sign the Republic of Ireland international.

James McCarthy is a well known name among the West Ham faithful after his reckless challenge led to a Dimitri Payet injury last season.

But now the 26-year-old is being linked with a move to East London so that Everton can bankroll their own move for West Ham target Gylfi Sigurdsson.

£20m is the quoted figure to land the tough-tackling no-nonsense central midfielder.

West Ham fans were not best pleased with this news and here are a selection of the best responses.
