Maxi Gómez has expressed a desire to move to Valencia rather than join West Ham, according to Daily Star.

It has been claimed that the Uruguayan would like to stay in La Liga, with the pull of Champions League football another reason behind his desire to join Valencia.

He is currently at the Copa América, so the Hammers could be made to wait for a final decision on whether they can complete the transfer.

Gómez has been identified as the Hammers’ main transfer target from early on in the window, as reported by ExWHUEmployee.

The insider has also claimed that any move would likely be stretched out, perhaps even lasting the majority of this transfer window.

The worrying side of this is that if the deal doesn’t go through, West Ham may be left with very little time to get another deal completed.

There is also a chance they won’t have many options left, with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrović being linked with clubs aside from the Hammers, as the Daily Star reports Real Betis are now the favourites to sign the Serbian.

West Ham will no doubt be doing all they can to get their man, but this latest report indicates securing Gómez’s signature will be a tough task.
