Andy Carroll has suffered an injury which will rule him out for up to a month and scupper any chance of him moving to Chelsea, The Telegraph reports.

Carroll had been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea and it was said that his head had been turned by this transfer rumour.

With Chelsea looking to offload Michy Batshuayi, they were eyeing Carroll as a back up option to Alvaro Morata.

However, now they are being forced to look elsewhere with Edin Dzeko and Peter Crouch among the new names linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old has suffered an ankle injury as he continues to spend more time out injured.

This latest injury could force Carroll to undergo surgery – a procedure which would take him up to four months to recover from.

The nine-cap England international has struggled for game time this season as he yet again battles injuries.

The former Newcastle United and Liverpool man has scored just the two goals this term, both of which came in a dramatic last-gasp win over West Bromwich Albion.

West Ham were looking to accept a bid in the region of £20m for Carroll but it looks like they will now be keeping the physical centre forward this month.
