A Twitter post from West Ham Fan TV asked the club’s fans whether Manuel Pellegrini is justifying an alleged £8m a year contract.
Dubbed by West Ham United’s official website as ‘one of the finest managerial minds in Premier League history’ the 66-year-old has failed to impress, despite getting the Hammers to 10th place in the league.
The Chilean has only managed to lead his side to one win in their last six games (per WhoScored), with that coming in the 2-0 victory against Manchester United back in September.
2. Is Manuel Pellegrini doing enough for his £8m pounds a year Salary?
— West Ham Fan TV (@westhamfantv) October 29, 2019
Many fans have criticised Pellegrini’s tactics, with the Sebastien Haller isolation issue being a hot topic over the past few weeks. The Frenchman only touched the ball 29 times in the game against Sheffield United, which is five less than the Blades goalkeeper, Dean Henderson.
The one thing Pellegrini has done a lot of during his London Stadium tenure is regularly change his matchday squad; making it feel a little bit like The Wheel of Fortune when waiting for the teamsheets to come out at times. For example, The East London Tinkerman made five changes last time out.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the post can be seen below:
No, not even close to enough.
He doesn’t get paid £8m a year for us to be sitting mid table with no progress made, and also with roughly £150m invested on players of his choosing since his arrival.
Managers earning that wage need to have their clubs in the top six. We aren’t.

No, absolutely not, situation right now reeks of Big Sam, stubborn tactics and seems to making it up as he’s going along, his age also suggests he won’t be with us much longer

I think he makes very questionable subs/ tactics that when (billic)was in charge he would of been ripped into about. Think he needs to be reminded that his previous record doesn’t means he’s a good manager but that hard work and getting things right will be what makes him good.

No. Too stubborn to change style of play which clearly isnt working. Making some silly substations needs to start performing.

That’s just how football is these days with the stupid money. Yes he is doing alright so far but we should wait and see how well he does this season and next before deciding to give him a new deal

Declan aside, who is very young and clearly a talent, who has improved under Pellegrini? Maybe Fredericks. But that’s it

No. I’ve watched every game this season. And apart from the Norwich game I think we’ve been quite lucky to win and draw games. And to me the players don’t look like they’re enjoying whatever is being told, players look uninterested and bored

No! We look laboured. No plan B, cant get best out of any striker. Haller gone backwards since joining, Both Perez and Hernandez now scoring since moving. The fact we beat Norwich who are terrible and the worst man u team ever glosses over our performances on the whole so far
