George McCartney has returned to training follow a three-month spell on the side lines.

The left-back, who has made 126 first team appearances over two spells at Upton Park, suffered a knee-ligament injury at the beginning of December and his return will be a welcome boost to the squad as they prepare to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

With the likes of Dan Potts and Joey O’Brien both covering in McCartney’s absence, Sam Allardyce will be relieved to know he can finally call on the reliable and consistent left-back once more as he aims to mastermind Premier League survival in the club’s first season back since promotion in May.
