West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini is a target for Liverpool if Philippe Coutinho leaves the club, according to The Sun.

Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has been identified as a top target for European giants Barcelona, who are pressing ahead with a move for him.

The Reds are desperate to keep the Brazilian play maker but have hatched a contingency plan in case he does depart.

Manuel Lanzini is on their radar if Coutinho leaves.

Lanzini is the star in West Ham’s attacking midfield and has really stepped up since Dimitri Payet’s departure in January.

With eight Premier League goals last season, the Argentinian international is a desirable asset to have in midfield.

The 24-year-old offers pace, skill and incredible dribbling ability in a similar style to Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool are very interested by this and he already brings two years worth of proven Premier League standard to the club.

West Ham will, of course, be desperate to keep Lanzini, who has become their star player.

He currently has a contract which lasts until 2020 and the Hammers want to offer him an extension to fend off interest from bigger clubs and to bring him in line with some of the top earning stars in East London.
