New West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini continues to eye defensive additions ahead of the 2018-19 Premier League season but looks set for disappointment in one particular chase.

The Hammers have been widely attributed with interest in Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles, who impressed for the Magpies last season as Rafael Benitez’s side eased towards safety in the top-flight.

Newcastle are determined not to sell but owner Mike Ashley is known to be ready to listen to offers for any player within the squad, although it is clear that Lascelles himself does not want to move.

Speaking to The Chroniclethe 24-year-old defender said:

“I’m happy at Newcastle. I don’t take notice of the media and I have always been told not to buy into speculation. I was told not to read into it.

“Half of it isn’t even true anyway so I’m just concentrating on playing for Newcastle. I’m happy here, I’m captain, it’s my job and that’s all I’m doing right now.”
