Sam Allardyce has revealed that Jussi Jaaskelainen has triggered a one-year contract extension and will remain at the club next season.
The Finnish stopper has earned mixed reviews from fans since joining the club on a free from Bolton in the summer and there has been much speculation about who will replace him in goal next season.
However, having featured in all of West Ham’s Premier League fixtures this season, the 37-year-old has triggered an appearance clause in his contract that allows him to sign for another year.
Allardyce told The Times: “It’s sorted. The option is linked into this year and kicked in with him completed the games. There is no doubting the value of his signing.”
Several goalkeepers have been linked with a move to Upton Park recently, including QPR’s Brazilian stopper Julio Cesar and Manchester United’s Anders Lindegaard.
