Everton defender John Heitinga has turned down a move to West Ham, it has been revealed today.

Sam Allardyce confirmed yesterday that a deal for the Everton defender was close to being completed and that he would be a West Ham player in time to feature against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday.

But Heitinga told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that he has decided against moving to Upton Park.

He said: “The deal has been cancelled. This has nothing to do with money, but is only about the feeling I got.

“This might be the most important decision of my career, so everything has to be just right.

“We reached the conclusion that this is not the case after talks.”

Heitinga’s comments came just minutes after Sky Sports reported that the deal had fallen through…
