Everton defender John Heitinga admits he is flattered by reported interest from the Hammers, according to reports in Holland.

The Holland international has not featured in the Premier League under new Toffees boss Roberto Martinez this season and has been increasingly linked with a move away from Goodison Park in January in order to boost his chances of going to the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

And with the Hammers reportedly very interested in a loan deal until the end of the season, the 30-year-old admits he would jump at the chance to move to East London.

He told Voetbal International: “I am flattered with the interest from West Ham.

“Since this week the market is open and it’s clear that I have to make an important decision. The chance of playing more minutes is most important.

“I want to be at the World Cup and to realise that I have to play. Only then I can make it difficult to Louis van Gaal.”

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is expected to be in the market for a central defender in January having seen all three of his centre-backs suffer injuries in recent weeks, forcing him to play four full-backs in the recent 3-3 Premier League home draw with West Brom.
