West Ham are exploring a potential January move for Southampton striker Rickie Lambert, according to MirrorFootball.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce tried to bring the 31-year-old England international to Upton Park in the summer, but was told he was not for sale at any price.

But with a shortage of goals from the likes of Carlton Cole and Modibo Maiga, and Saints striker Dani Osvaldo keeping Lambert out of the side at St. Mary’s, the Hammers are expected to return in January with a better chance of getting their man.

And with the World Cup in Brazil next summer, Lambert may be open to a move away from Southampton to improve his chances of making Roy Hodgson’s squad.
