West Ham are preparing a surprise move for former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The 34-year-old Internacional striker is reportedly seeking a move back to Europe, despite only signing for the Brazilian side last summer, and it is believed Sam Allardyce is looking in to the possibility of bringing him to the Boleyn Ground.

The Urugyuan international struggled during his time at Old Trafford between 2001 and 2004, managing to score just ten Premier League goals in 63 appearances.

But he has since been a dangerous force up front for the likes of Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, where he scored a combined 128 goals in 240 La Liga appearances.

And Allardyce will be hoping Forlan can find that kind of goal scoring form in order to help his Hammers side start climbing the Premier League table, should he be able to convince him to move to East London.
