West Ham have signed Wolves defender Roger Johnson on loan until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old centre-half has been on loan with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday this season but joins the Hammers to provide much needed cover in defence as Allardyce attempts to reinforce a back-line crippled by injury.

Johnson signed for Wolves from Birmingham for a reported £7million in July 2011 following the Blues’ relegation from the Premier League. But Johnson has since suffered back-to-back relegations with Wolves, who now compete in League One.

Johnson is expected to go straight in to the squad for Wednesday’s Capital One Cup semi-final first-leg meeting with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
