Five West Ham players who’d benefit from a Championship loan

One of the fundamental reasons why the mighty Hammers have started exceptionally is because of the squad’s strength in depth, something that was definitely missing from the Sam Allardyce era.

As Slaven Bilic highly anticipated a good run in the Europa League at the start of the 205/2016 campaign, nine additions were made and some have been truly brilliant additions, such as Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini.

As a result, a plethora of high quality talent is sitting on the bench and not accumulating enough minutes on the pitch.

This could potentially cause unrest in the Upton Park camp and, based on the fantastic beginning to the season, that is the last thing the East Londoners need at the moment.

So here are five players that should be sent on loan to the Championship to gain vital experience and minutes on the pitch…

Martin Samuelsen

Since his summer arrival from Manchester City, the tricky Norwegian with nags of flair has been turning heads at the Boleyn Ground.

The youngster has been on the bench for the first team on a couple of occasions and was heavily involved in the qualifying stages of the Europa League.

However, the Hammers need to develop the midfielder with bags of potential, by testing himself in another competitive league.

Doneil Henry

Since his arrival from FC Toronto in January, Henry has failed to make a first team appearance.

After making a promising start in a loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in March, it is clear to see that the Canada international can become a huge hit in English football.

With the 22-year-old being fifth choice at West Ham, another stint in the Championship will only benefit him.

Stephen Hendrie

Like Henry, Hendrie is yet to make a first team appearance despite having great potential and proving he is a quality full back with his last club Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premier League.

However, the Scottish U21 international failed to make the first XI in the Hammers development squad game against Fulham U21’s on Monday night.

As Aaron Cresswell is firmly the first choice left back, the former Ipswich Town man needs some stiff competition.

Sending Hendrie out on loan will give him more game time and he should comeback even better.

Reece Oxford

The 16-year-old mad a massive impression on the whole of the Premier League in his first start for the first team on the opening day away victory against Arsenal. However, his involvement since then has massively reduced.

Being taken off at half time against Leicester City the following week proved the wonder kid still needs to learn and develop.

However, Oxford is still in Bilic’s plans after preventing the defender/defensive midfielder from international duty with the England U17.

With Alex Song due to return, there will be plenty of Championship clubs eager to get the future England international on a temporary basis.

Nikica Jelavic

Since arriving from Championship outfit Hull City for £3m on deadline day, Jelavic has failed to make an impact simply because of the great form and performances shown by Diafra Sakho, Mauro Zarate and Andy Carroll.

With Enner Valencia on the cusp of a return to action, the Croatian will not want to be fifth choice striker.

Could a short term deal back to the KC Stadium be on the cards for the former Everton and Rangers frontman?
