Islam Slimani

The Sporting Lisbon striker is currently at the World Cup with Algeria and looked impressive, finding the net and providing an assist in their 4-2 victory over South Korea. However, after the signing of John Pantsil, we should know that the World Cup is not always the most accurate showcase for a footballer’s ability. Slimani’s statistics at domestic level are unremarkable (8 goals in 26 games) and his price is rumoured to be around the £6m mark with Stoke, Newcastle, Marseille and Trabzonspor also interested. For me, his game is too similar to Andy Carroll’s to work in unison; he might be a very good replacement but at the price being demanded, I think it’s too much effort for a back-up striker.
