Five reasons West Ham fans have no reason panic

Granted; One of the more sarcastic titles I have ever written about but one that I feel fairly strongly about all the same.

This season had started perfectly after that amazing win at the Emirates over Arsenal.

However, in true West Ham fashion, we threw that great start away with two losses, both at home against relatively beatable teams. I would quickly just like to vent a personal frustration at the team over their demeanour at the Boleyn Ground.

I can handle losses and the odd poor performance, but what I saw from the previous two weekends from a passion and performance based point of view was nothing short of abysmal. Never have I seen us quite as slow and lacklustre as we were against Bournemouth, with only around seven minutes of actual good play in the form of the opening of the second half, not to mention the complete destruction of our disciplinary record.

May I remind the players this year of all the years at our beautiful home will be the most important as it is our LAST SEASON at the Boleyn. From what I have seen recently, there seems to be a dangerously low amount of passion on that pitch and I hope that this will turn around very soon.

I don’t blame those defeats on the tactical implementation of Bilic, just a lack of remembering the ‘basics’. Sharpen up.

Rant over. So…… how do we move on from this?

(Sidenote: all of that does not go for Kouyate who has been stunning in all three games)

Discipline

As previously mentioned, it has been an atrocious display of discipline, especially from the more senior players in the team.

Despite a dubious decision going against Adrian vs. Leicester, Jenkinson’s red was definitely the most upsetting as it not only rounded up a pretty dismal display by the right back, but also showed lack of care or priority.

However, he was a star in England’s Euro U21 campaign over the summer and I can only hope fatigue was the factor in his first game back and I hope he has that games break now to get himself back on track.

This was obviously a risk with a partnership of Bilic and Dicks on the bench shouting threatening obscenities at the team, but certainly not an excuse for five red cards already this season.

Again, it’s really just a matter of remembering the basics.

Injuries

It has been well documented over the start of this campaign that our injury troubles are not getting any better.

With Carroll, Valencia, Zarate all out injured, our striking options are looking very bare.

However, I maintain that Valencia and Zarate, when fit, will have very good seasons compared to last year.

Carroll is already a proven player at the top level, the only hope is his glass legs hold on all the way till May from the moment he comes back.

Transfers

Lots of names but no deals; definitely sums up the second half, at least, of our transfer window. However, with the striking situation becoming even worse with the possibility of Maiga leaving before the game on Saturday and a potential injury to Sakho, we really do need to act fast.

As per my Twitter account, I feel we still need four/five signings which sounds extreme, but after the performance against Bournemouth, it is obvious that depth is a problem we have unlike clubs (such as Stoke, Aston Villa, Watford) who have added quality as well as depth.

I’m sure there will be an article this week from West Ham World considering the best options to bring into the club, but I would be very happy with Moses and Yilmaz/Adebayor coming to the club, as well as the completion of the long-awaited Song deal.

It should be an exciting last seven days of the Transfer Window, that’s for sure.

Formation

Like I said, Bilic is not to blame for this start as he has proven that there is a hint of madness to his method already after pulling off that shock win over Arsenal at the start of the season.

However, with such a narrow formation, I think it may be worth thinking of widening the area of play.

Keeping the Faith

The fans deserve all the plaudits for the opening three games, their passion has been uncanny and there is certainly an increased sense of overriding passion amongst the fans which is great to see.

However, anyone who is even close to a phone or computer these days can see that hope often dwindles and faith is lost very quickly. Give the new management time to settle and the new players a chance to shine.

Remember, this time last season (after three games) we had the same amount of points as we have right now so things will improve (Let’s hope!).
