As football around the world has come to an abrupt halt, we face no choice but to keep ourselves entertained…and what better way to do so than taking a look back at some of West Ham’s most memorable victories – today’s subject being AFC Bournemouth.

The two teams have met just 15 times in history, the first dating back to 1929. Since then, the Hammers have beaten the Cherries six times, drawing five and losing the remaining four.

However, all four of those defeats have come since Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier League in 2015, the latest being a 2-0 defeat at Vitality Stadium in 2019.

Today we take a look back at five times West Ham triumphed over the Cherries…

West Ham 4-1 Bournemouth – April 11, 1990

Julian Dicks scored West Ham’s first goal of the afternoon as the Hammers ran out as comfortable 4-1 winners in Division Two.

Goals from Martin Allen, Ian Bishop and an own-goal ensured the Hammers took all three points from Upton Park and sent the claret and blue fans home happy.

West Ham 2-0 Bournemouth – October 13, 1999

The third round of the League Cup at Upton Park back in 1999 certainly delivered on expectations for the Hammers faithful.

Mark Keller’s 61st minute strike put West Ham ahead, before Frank Lampard sealed the victory with 13 minutes left to play and sent the Irons through to the fourth round.

Bournemouth 1-3 West Ham – January 12, 2016

A memorable 2015/16 campaign for Slaven Bilic’s side and this win epitomised the character and quality of the team that season. Trailing 1-0 at half-time, Dimitri Payet inspired the Hammers to victory.

The Frenchman scored an outstanding free-kick in the 67th minute to level proceedings before producing a moment of magic seven minutes later to assist Enner Valencia. The latter then grabbed his second and West Ham’s third with six minutes to play.

West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth – August 21, 2016

The Hammers switched to Stratford for the 2016/17 Premier League campaign – the move to London Stadium started off with three points.

West Ham’s first Premier League opponents at their new home was Bournemouth; Michail Antonio’s 85th minute winner gave Bilic’s side all three points. The man who assisted? Gokhan Tore – a name for the history books…

West Ham 4-0 Bournemouth – January 1, 2020

With West Ham and Bournemouth both fighting for Premier League survival, this clash at London Stadium on New Year’s Day was the making of a ‘six-pointer’.

Manuel Pellegrini was sacked at the end of December and in stepped David Moyes for his second spell as Hammers boss; a 4-0 thrashing of the Cherries was the perfect start for the Scot.

A brace from Mark Noble and goals from Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson pushed West Ham clear of the drop zone.
