Five last minute deals West Ham simply can’t ignore

The deadline for this summer’s transfer window is rapidly approaching yet we still find ourselves in desperate need of adding players to our squad.

This means that the next few days will be spent engaging in frantic negotiations in order to push through some late deals.

There are still plenty of areas that could do with strengthening.

Our priorities must surely be strikers and wingers but a new holding midfielder, goalkeeper and right back would also be useful additions.

In this article, I look at some quality players that would improve our squad before the window slams shut…

Adnan Januzaj

Width and attacking flair is notably lacking in our midfield, and Adnan Januzaj would fit the bill perfectly.

Sunderland and Everton have also been keeping their tabs on his situation at Manchester United and we are all interested in acquiring his services on a season-long loan deal.

The Belgian international has struggled to maintain a regular spot in the United side since bursting onto the scene two years ago.

This move is very much dependent on Manchester United adding another attacking midfielder but Januzaj would probably benefit immensely from a year at West Ham and considering he has a point to prove to Louis Van Gaal, we might see the best of his game.

If the 20-year-old manages to impress during a loan stint, he would be well prepared for a return to Old Trafford and would have aided us in the process.

Victor Moses

An alternative attacking option would be Chelsea’s Victor Moses. Moses stood out as a youngster coming through the ranks at Crystal Palace and continued to catch the eye whilst at Wigan.

His career then stalled when he moved to Chelsea and found game time harder to come by and a loan spell at Liverpool also did little for his development.

The Nigerian international then recaptured some of his early career form during a loan spell at Stoke last season but with the likes of Oscar, Pedro, Willian, Hazard and Fabregas vying for places in Chelsea’s line-up, Moses might have to move club to kickstart his career again.

We have apparently had bids for the 24 year-old turned down but we should try to push this one through to add pace, flair and attacking prowess to our midfield line-up.

If Chelsea price us out of a deal, we should look at the possibility of taking Lucas Piazon on a year-long loan as an alternative.

Rob Green

Since breaking into the first team picture, Adrian has made the goalkeeper spot his own and does not look willing to relinquish it any time soon.

However, back-up choice Darren Randolph has not impressed since joining on a free transfer from Birmingham this summer. He was signed before we appointed Bilic and it seems that the boss would prefer another option to deputise for Adrian.

News reports have recently linked us to a move for Rob Green and this could become a reality considering QPR have just signed Alex Smithies from Huddersfield. Green enjoyed six terrific years at Upton Park and would be welcomed back with open arms if we are willing to meet his wage demands.

James Collins might be offered as bait to tempt QPR into letting us sign him or the other option involves using Randolph in a direct swap deal.

Mbaye Niang

The summer arrivals of Luiz Adriano, Mario Balotelli and Carlos Bacca at AC Milan has cast doubts over the future of Alessandro Matri and Mbaye Niang.

The latter is perhaps worthy of a punt considering our increasingly limited options towards the end of the window. We were previously linked with Mbaye but pulled out of a deal.

The Frenchman is a striker primarily but can double up as a winger or an attacking midfielder which would suit our need for a striker and a winger with just one player.

Admittedly we would be taking a gamble with Niang but the 20-year-old has the ability to become special if he can sort his attitude out and fulfil his potential.

Andriy Yarmolenko

It obviously depends on our funds, but the signing of Andriy Yarmolenko would be a coup. The Ukraine international midfielder was previously targeted by Stoke before they signed Ibrahim Afellay and Xherdan Shaqiri and he might be tempted by a switch to the Premier League.

Yarmolenko has the ability to torment defences with his pace and trickery as well as a knack for scoring goals and getting assists. The fee would probably be in excess of £10m but a late swoop for him would be a statement of intent from the club and would solve some midfield issues that we have had in the early season.

Yarmolenko is still only 25-years-old and could have a great future at West Ham, going into the Olympic Stadium.
