Five Euro 2016 stars West Ham would be mad not to target this summer

With the European Championships kicking off on Friday, it’s the perfect opportunity for club managers to scout potential summer recruits ahead of next season.

We all that signing players on the back of major tournaments is a risky one and can prove to be very expensive.

However, Slaven Bilic will no doubt have his eyes fixed on several names competing for their respective nations over the next four weeks.

So we’ve taken a look at five players he should be paying close attention to, some of which could prove to be fantastic additions to our squad this summer…

Arkadiusz Milik

Arkadiusz Milik is a 22-year-old Polish striker who currently plays for Ajax.

The Polish hitman has scored 32 goals for Ajax since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for a mere 2.8m Euros after completing a spell on loan.

Once given the opportunity to be the first choice No.9 he has thrived under De Boer.

During the Euro 2016 Qualifiers he linked up well with Robert Lewandowski, creating a deadly partnership and guiding them to a second place finish behind Germany to qualify for this summer’s finals.

Not only can he score goals, but he is a team player and had the most assists as a striker in the qualifiers.

Currently worth £7.5m, his value could increase if he lives up to his form of being Ajax’s main man.

The 6ft 2” striker will be key in Poland’s progression in the tournament and certainly one to keep an eye on.

Bořek Dočkal

The Czech Player of the Year, who currently plys his trade for Sparta Prague, has been ever present for club and country this season.

The attacking midfielder is flexible up top and can play in similar positions to Payet. For Prague he contributed 13 goals and 13 assists in 45 first team appearances last term.

In qualifying he featured nine times, scoring four and assisting one for Czech Republic.

Currently valued at £2.25m, the 27-year-old looks set to be a main starter for Czech Republic.

He could be well worth a gamble with such little risk – certainly worth putting in your Fantasy Dream Team!

Aleksandar Dragović

The Austrian powerhouse defender has been on West Ham’s rader for the past two seasons.

He currently plays for Dinamo Kiev and scored against Chelsea in this year’s Champions League.

Worth an outstanding £11.25m, he is the Austrian rock which helped the nation qualify for the Euros with ease, but can also sit in front of the centre back when called upon.

At 25-years-old he has already acquired 46 caps, played 14 times during Austria’s campaign and only got booked twice, which is quite a feat for a tough tackling centre-back.

I consider Austria to be the outside bet for this year’s Euros and Dragovic is key to that challenge.

Taulant Xhaka

Taulant Xhaka is the older brother to Arsenal’s new super signing and Granit.

He currently plays for FC Basel in the Swiss league and is a versatile defensive midfielder who can also play centre-back and right-back.

Taulant hasn’t scored any goals and doesn’t really assist but he is a wall that is hard to break down. As a major part of Albania’s historic qualification to the Euros, he features in a side that will be tested defensively by fast paced attacking teams such as France and Switzerland.

It’s safe to say that Albania’s best chance of qualifying for the knockout stages is if they finish third in their and hope that they will be one of the top four teams in that mini league.

Xhaka is a tough tackling player and the complete opposite to his younger brother. The grit and determination is something that could appeal to Slaven and would be a useful addition to call upon, especially with Taulant’s experience in the Europa league and Champions League.

The game v. Switzerland will be a monumental one as it will be the first time in European Championships history that two brothers will face against each otheR.

But another interesting outcome is that due to Kosovo being given independence and included as a FIFA national team, they could both leave their current nations and play for Kosovo, so they could be the first brothers to play against each other and then play with each other.

Interesting!

Ante Ćorić

Ante Coric has been touted the next best Croatian youngster to be unearthed and has already been linked with a £10m move to West Ham.

I’d be lying if I said I know everything about a player we’ve never heard of, but certainly worth watching to make up your own opinion.

Coric plays for Dinamo Zagreb and at 19 has scored five goals and assisted six in 41 games. That’s a huge amount of games to play for a 19-year-old.

He has also appeared in the Champions League four times, mostly from the bench.

He made his national debut on May 27th and looks to be next Luka Modric. I doubt he will be a starter but he will most defiantly feature from the bench.
