Five ‘class’ loan signings West Ham should consider this summer

Over the past few seasons, West Ham have always looked to get one or two players on loan as well as making permanent signings.

Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song are the two current loanees in our squad and we have previously seen successful loan stints from Henri Lansbury and Andy Carroll, for example.

However, we have had our fair share of underwhelming loan deals – Roger Johnson, Emanuel Pogatetz and Marouane Chamakh are three prime examples in recent years.

Alongside a number of permanent new arrivals, we will inevitably look to the loan market for an extra two or three players so it is of vital importance that we swoop well and make the signings worthwhile.

Here are five players who we might be able to borrow next season…

Patrick Bamford

Chelsea’s young striker Patrick Bamford could be a very useful addition to the squad, especially as we have an injury prone attack.

Primarily a striker but also capable of operating on the wing or just behind a front man, Bamford has shone in a fine Middlesbrough side this season and is currently engaged in a play-off campaign.

The 21-year-old is unlikely to shift Diego Costa or Loic Remy out of the first team picture, so Jose Mourinho could be persuaded into shipping the Championship Player of the Year out on loan for another term.

Middlesbrough will undoubtedly be interested if they secure promotion and we may have to fight off competition from Aston Villa and Sunderland for Bamford’s signature.

Jese Rodriguez

Jese Rodriguez is a very exciting prospect at Real Madrid and rumours suggest West Ham and Everton are preparing to battle for his services on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old striker has goals in him but is understandably behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Javier Hernandez in Real Madrid’s pecking order, so a move could be mutually beneficial for both the club and the player.

Munir El Haddadi

West Ham and Swansea are both considering a move for Barcelona’s wonderkid Munir El Haddadi, according to reports.

The 19 year-old has already been capped once by Spain and has played a handful of games for Barcelona’s senior side, despite his tender age.

Munir would be a welcome addition to our squad, providing genuine competition for Sakho, Carroll and Valencia.

Adnan Januzaj

When Adnan Januzaj and Ravel Morrison both burst onto the scene at the start of the 2013/14 season, both were heralded as two of the most exciting youngsters in European football.

Hype has since subsided in both and Januzaj looks surplus to requirements at Manchester United at the moment, especially with the impending arrival of Memphis Depay at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old Belgian international winger could be on his way to PSG or Juventus permanently but Manchester United might be tempted to just loan him for a season to check his progression and West Ham could be an ideal destination.

He would provide some much-desired creativity in midfield and would almost be guaranteed game time with European football a possibility too.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

The media heaped plenty of praise on young Ruben Loftus-Cheek last weekend after an eye-catching debut for Chelsea against Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho rates Loftus-Cheek as his most promising youngster and the 19-year-old already looks at home in the Premier League.

His 100% pass completion record on his debut was impressive but the 6’3’’ imposing defensive midfielder can also find the net, having scored six goals in 13 England under-19 appearances.

Graceful in possession, yet powerful when defending, Loftus-Cheek could benefit from regular playing time in the Premier League and, with Alex Song departing, a vacancy is there in the West Ham side.
