Five ‘bargain’ transfers West Ham should snap up this summer

Boleyn Ground

With Newcastle United and Hull City the two teams in contention to join QPR and Burnley in the Championship, many top flight teams will be looking to poach some of their brightest stars as the 2014/2015 campaign draws to a close and preparations for next season begin.

With a place in next season’s Europa League beckoning, as well as Premier League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup commitments, adding to the squad in the summer is critical.

Owners David Gold and David Sullivan have already expressed their intention to splash the cash so here are five players from relegated or relegation threatened teams that the Hammers should sign.

Kieran Trippier

If West Ham fail to finalise a permanent deal with Arsenal for Carl Jenkinson, then Burnley full-back Kieran Trippier could be an ideal and cheaper alternative.

The former Manchester City academy graduate has been impressive for the Clarets despite the Turf Moor outfit’s return to the second tier of English football.

Unlike Jenkinson, Trippier possess fantastic crossing delivery on a consistant basis, as well as developing himself as Burnley’s free kick specialist.

Danny Ings

Out of contract in the summer, a host of clubs chasing his signature but with no decision made of where his future may lie, the Hammers should definitely at least attempt to sign Danny Ings.

Bagging the England U21 striker would be one of the coups of the summer. Also, wage demands will not be too extortionate, with the former Bournemouth frontman willing to accept at £40,000-a-week.

With Andy Carroll injury prone, Enner Valencia set to miss the start of next season through the Copa America with his native Ecuador and Carlton Cole leaving, signing Ings could become a priority.

Charlie Austin

After coming from the Championship, Charlie Austin has established himself as a potent Premier league goalscorer for already relegated QPR.

17 goals in 34 games speaks for itself, and it’s unsurprising why so many teams want to keep the 25 year old in England’s top flight.

With a strong appetite for goals, powerful presence and good work ethic, the former Burnley striker possess all the attributes to cope with the pressures of the Premier League and Europa League.

It’s no surprise why Austin is on the cusp of a call up to the England squad.

Leroy Fer

Fer has no question been less of an impact player than his teammate Austin at Loftus Road, however, the Netherlands international is still capable of making a difference in the heart of the midfield.

Could it be that the former Norwich City man will come to Upton park to replace Alex Song? Injury problems have scuppered Fer’s playing time with the Hoops.

However, his ling range shooting ability is something that West Ham lack and if the experienced Harry Redknapp thought he was good enough to stay in the Premier League when QPR singed him from the Canaries, then Fer must be good enough for the best league in the world.

Ayoze Perez

In the past, West Ham have been linked with a plethora of strikers that have never quite made the grade, nor has the youngsters from the Hammers famous academy lived up to the name.

However, 21-year-old Ayoze Perez, who arrived from Spanish second division side Tenerife, has been a surprise package in the Premier League and has been the one bright spark for Newcastle United’s dreadful campaign, contributing with seven goals this season.

It’s no wonder why Manchester City are keeping an eye on the Spanish U21, as Perez has bags of potential to be a prolific attacker.
