Five £20m strikers West Ham should target in the summer

West Ham must be ambitious this summer.

This is an exciting time for fans and it feels like if we could just find a prolific goalscorer then we will be able to make that next step up.

Finding a striker is our main priority this summer and the owners have made it public that we will be willing to break our transfer record and splash out £20m on the right man.

However, top strikers are widely coveted and it will be a challenge to attract the very best to West Ham without the ‘big boys’ showing interest too.

Hopefully the Olympic Stadium and the chance to play with the likes of Dimitri Payet will be enough incentive for them to see our project and get on board.

Here are five suggestions that we might explore this summer…

Michy Batshuayi

Any West Ham fans on social media will be aware that this man is one of our priorities.

Batshuayi has been a shining light during an underwhelming season for Marseille and he sits second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the top scorers chart.

The 22-year-old might be tempted to follow former teammate Dimitri Payet to West Ham in the summer but Marseille will be unlikely to accept any offers below £20m.

It seems as if we are in direct competition with neighbours Tottenham for the Belgium international’s signature, with Spurs also aiming to bring in a top goalscorer this summer.

Arkadiusz Milik

It is always risky buying from the Dutch league so Arkadiusz Milik would be a gamble if we signed him.

Milik is a tall, physical forward plying his trade for Ajax and has already scored nine goals in 19 appearances for the Dutch giants.

The Polish international also has an impressive international goalscoring record where he partners Robert Lewandowski up front.

At 21 years of age he still has a lot of improving to do so he might be a handy purchase for the future, but he might not fit the bill of prolific £20m-rated striker to come straight in and score goals for us.

Alexandre Lacazette

Lacazette is a wanted man across Europe.

Plenty of big clubs want to sign the Lyon forward this summer including a host of Premier League clubs. The French international has already hinted that he prefers a move to England with plenty of clubs circling around him and monitoring his situation.

The 24-year-old was Ligue 1’s top goalscorer last season and he would be a perfect addition to this West Ham team if we could fight off any competitors.

Perhaps European qualification this season would help in any attempt to sign him.

Carlos Tevez

The return of Carlos Tevez would be most West Ham fans’ ultimate fantastical fairytale come true.

There is a special relationship between Tevez and the West Ham supporters after he almost single-handedly kept us afloat in controversial fashion back in 2007.

There is no doubting the 32-year-old’s ability and age would be the only concern with this move.

The Argentinian forward has incredible talent and maybe he would like one more chance to challenge himself in the Premier League with his favourite English club.

Mario Mandzukic

This would be an optimistic attempt but would signal our intent nonetheless.

Mario Mandzukic has played for a handful of clubs at the highest level including Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and his current employers Juventus.

The 29-year-old fits the bill of a goalscoring striker who is capable both aerially and on the floor. He currently sits behind Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata in the Juventus pecking order and a move to West Ham would see him heralded as a main striker.

He might be tempted to reunite with Slaven Bilic – the man who handed Mandzukic his Croatia debut.
