West Ham United’s under 23 side will be heading back to the top tier of youth football next season after winning in the final of the PL2 play-offs.
West Ham travelled to Newcastle United and claimed the victory at St James’ Park to seal promotion.
Newcastle took an early lead when Tom Heardman, regarded as the next Andy Carroll, put the hosts in a great position.
However, the Hammers struck back just before the break.
Prolific striker Toni Martinez staked his claim for a first team spot next season by collecting the ball in the box and rifling a low and powerful shot past the Newcastle ‘keeper.
And then Martinez added his second of the game to give West Ham the lead on the hour mark.
The Spaniard struck a low drive from 25 yards and found the bottom corner.
West Ham then held out and ensured that promotion was sealed on Tyneside with a 2-1 victory.
West Ham fans took to Twitter to praise the promising Hammers and offer their opinions on our development squad.
