January has been a month of contrasts for West Ham United.

The Hammers have already welcomed four new faces through the door, with Axel Disasi set to follow imminently and free agent Raheem Sterling also under discussion.

At the same time, the club have sanctioned the sale of Lucas Paquetá, underlining just how delicate the balancing act has been for Nuno Espírito Santo.

With departures and arrivals happening side by side, fears had begun to grow that another key figure could be heading for the exit before the window slams shut.

However, those concerns now appear to have been firmly put to bed.

Reports suggesting that Alphonse Areola is on his way to Turkish giants Beşiktaş have been dismissed as wide of the mark.

Trusted insider ExWHUemployee has poured cold water on the rumours, stating that claims of an imminent move are simply “not true.”

Areola’s future has been the subject of growing speculation this winter, with Beşiktaş credited as strong admirers of the French goalkeeper. But despite the noise, there is no deal in place and no agreement close to being finalised.

The 31-year-old has pedigree at the very highest level.

A graduate of Paris Saint-Germain’s academy, Areola made over 100 appearances for the Ligue 1 heavyweights before leaving permanently in 2022. Since arriving in east London, he has gone on to feature 119 times for West Ham and has long been regarded as a reliable presence between the posts.

His reputation is such that even Kylian Mbappé once labelled him “superb”, praise that underlines the level Areola has operated at throughout his career.

With Mads Hermansen struggling to settle following his summer move and inconsistency proving costly earlier in the campaign, Areola’s recent upturn in form has been crucial. The Frenchman has looked sharper in recent weeks, offering calmness and authority at the back during a period where West Ham can ill afford more disruption.

As a result, confirmation that Areola is not heading for the exit will come as a significant relief for supporters — and for Nuno — as the club look to stabilise in the second half of the season.

In a window already defined by change, keeping hold of an improving, experienced goalkeeper may prove just as important as any new signing.
