Who’s been getting Roy Hodgson drunk?
After years of overlooking our best performing English players, Roy has finally recognised Stewart Downing’s recent performances and called him up to the England squad.
Downing has fully deserved international recognition so far this season and it would have been an outrage had Roy not called him up, which is what we were all expecting anyway. But he has done, even if he must’ve been pissed at the time.
But he perhaps wasn’t pissed enough. Because Roy still hasn’t recognised Mark Noble’s performances for the Hammers. He should’ve been called up the last time Hodgson named a squad, so his exclusion this time around isn’t exactly surprising.
As you can imagine, Twitter went absolutely mental after the news of Downing’s call up and Noble’s latest exclusion. Here’s some of the best tweets…
Is Roy drunk? He’s picked a West Ham player! Still no Noble, though. Perhaps he’s not drunk enough. #COYI

Pleased for Stewart Downing back in ENG squad. Was written off and ridiculed by so many.

28 – Stewart Downing has created 28 goalscoring chances in the PL this season (level with Tadic, only Fabregas has more). Recalled.
