Eight bargain buys to sign for West Ham on FM16

Managing West Ham on Football Manager can be a very difficult task to take on.

Over the years our players on the game have been average, and it’s pretty difficult to strengthen the side from the off when the board give you limited funds to work with.

This year it’s a little bit easier, with our squad being a lot stronger than before. But that means bigger teams are more likely to come in for our best performers, which unfortunately you’re going to have to give in to.

That’s because the board aren’t willing to give you a penny to strengthen your squad further, which means you’ll have to sell before buying.

But it’s ok, because by selling a couple the likes of Enner Valencia and Winston Reid (they normally ask for moves away in the first transfer window) you can raise up to £30m of transfer funds. Now you’re in business.

But you’ve got to spend it wisely. So here’s a look at six bargain buys to consider when managing West Ham on FM16…

Emmanuel Mammana

Mammana is classed is a wonderkid on the game, so you’ll have to be clever when trying to tempt him to the Boleyn Ground.

Move too early in the transfer window and a bigger club like Man United will join the party and end any chance you ever had of signing him, but bide your time and you should manage to snap him up for about £10million.

That might not sound like a bargain now, but within one or two seasons he’ll be the first player on your team sheet and one of the best central defenders in Europe.

Gabriel Barbosa

A name known to almost everyone who plays Football Manager – and this year he’s even more of a must-have than ever before.

Barbosa is available on loan at first, but you can snap him up for around £10-12million if you’re as clever with your pursuit of him as you should be with Mammana.

Keep an eye on him, bide your time and you could end up getting yourself one of the best strikers in the world for net to nothing.

Demarai Gray – Birmingham City

With the right development Gray can become one of the hottest players in the Premier League and he can be picked up for just £5million, which is his minimum fee release clause.

At the beginning of the game he won’t be good enough to slot straight in to the first team, so it’s worth sending him straight back on loan to Birmingham as part of the deal. After a season he’ll have improved immensely and will be ready for a chance in the first team.

With Chelsea demanding around £20m to make Victor Moses’ loan deal permanent, Gray is a much cheaper alternative.

Oliver – Atletico Madrid

Oliver’s potential could see him become one of the best players in the world but Atletico allow him to leave on loan from the off.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder can provide great back up for the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet.

The loan deal would also be very cheap, with Atletico asking nothing as a monthly fee and just 50% wage contribution, which works about to be just £7,250-a-week.

And if you can manage to get a first refusal option in to the loan agreement, you’ll potentially be able to get a wonderkid for next to nothing.

Manuel Lanzini

It won’t take you long to realise just how good Lanzini is on this year’s game.

He will be a very important player for you and the £5m first refusal fee will prove to be an absolute snip.

Capable of playing as a winger, inside forward and AMC, Lanzini chips in with goals and assists for fun and is a must buy.

Davey Roef – Anderlecht

Like most years, our goalkeepers on FM16 aren’t the greatest.

Adrian will do a job for a couple of years, but Darren Randolph isn’t your strongest of back ups.

So the best thing to do is look to the future and nab yourself a hot-prospect, and you’ll be bad to look past Davey Roef.

The 21-year-old is valued at just £350k and with just 11 months left on his Anderlecht contract, can be picked up very cheaply and will become your first choice keeper within a couple of years with the right development.

It may even be worth loaning him out for one or two seasons first, though.

Salva Ruiz – Valencia

One thing you’ll notice straight away is that there’s a severe lack of depth at left-back. Aaron Cresswell will always be your first choice and becomes one of the top left-backs in the Premier League. But you need back up for him.

Salva Ruiz starts the game on loan at Granada but has just 11 months remaining on his Valencia contract. Furthermore, the 20-year-old has £3.5m minimum release fee on his contract.

But you’ll have to offer him a pretty tasty contract for him to agree to move instead of signing a new deal in Spain. But if you can get him then you’ll have a player for the future, though he may need a couple of years of development first.

Federico Fernandez – Swansea City

This one may not seem like a bargain buy at first, but it could prove to be money well spent.

The harsh reality is that both Chelsea and Man United will come in for Winston Reid towards the end of the window and Reid will ask to leave. Thankfully you can command a pretty high price tag due to his the new contract he recently signed.

With the money you raise from his sale, Swansea’s Fernandez is an unlikely like-for-like replacement and will cost between £10m-£15m depending on your negotiation skills.

If you can get him, he and James Tomkins take no time in developing a strong centre-back partnership.
