Liverpool‘s Stewart Downing is to undergo a medical with West Ham today ahead of a deal reported to be worth around £5million.

The England winger moved to Anfield from Aston Villa for £20million two years ago but has since failed to make a real impact under both Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers.

And his time at Anfield appears to be coming to an end with the Hammers appearing to have beating Newcastle United to the 29-year-old’s signature after Rodgers told Downing he was free to leave the club this summer.

If the deal is completed, Downing will link up with former Reds teammates Andy Carroll and Joe Cole, while West Ham will have paid a huge £35million less than Liverpool did for the England trio.

Downing has made 65 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, scoring three goals.
